I often get asked what Samson likes to eat when he is traveling, or what I use as a treat when I’m training him.  Luckily, when Samson & I went to our first SuperZoo back in 2016, we had a life changing event. We stumbled onto the Inaba booth where they were handing out samples.  Sam being a cat, loved the unique high-quality cat treats that they offered.

Inaba Churu treats are a long tubes of delectable puree that come in nine different flavors.  When people ask me about the tubes, I explain they are cat treats eaten the in the same way humans eat Go-gurt treats.

When Samson travels or gets in his stroller I’ve noticed that he quits drinking water.  If he were a horse, I would be very concerned because in a horse dehydration can be life-threatening.  However, Sam is a cat.  Until I discovered the Churu treats I tried to trust his wisdom to take care of his own body in a way that he felt was right. Still, I was concerned.

So I was already thinking about how to hydrate Samson when we stumbled onto the Inaba booth at SuperZoo that day.  When they showed me the Churu treats, I was impressed with the percentage of moisture contained in the treats.  Of course, if the cat doesn’t like the taste of the product, the moisture content would make no difference!  Sam has always been finicky with cat foods & treats.  Truthfully, I never know for sure if he will like something.

Inaba Churu cat treats were originally created & manufactured in Japan where they are the #1 cat treat in that country.  Recently they began to focus on expanding into the USA market.

The Inaba people gave me a bag of treats to test with Sam.   For American cat owners, holding a tube for their cat to lick isn’t a normal way to give their cat a treat.   Actually it isn’t that hard.  Once you understand that the treat is eaten like you would eat a Go-Gurt,  you understand how it works.

In fact, that is another reason I like the Churu brand.  You CAN hold them.  I can call Samson to come  & if he sees a Churu treat in my hand he comes quickly for his favorite treat.  I use them when Samson & I go into hospitals to visit.  I can have a patient feed the Churro to Sam & he will willingly take it. Yes, that’s right.  Samson LOVES the Churu taste so much he will accept it from a total stranger in front of other strangers!

When I came back to Arizona from the SuperZoo Conference, I was hard put to find a place that sold the Inaba brand.  I looked it up on Amazon & it was being sold by a third party for an exorbitant price.  I was really happy when I walked into the Arizona Pet Club & saw that they carried the whole Inaba line.  Inaba has their website up & functioning now.  They will sell you 20 tubes for a really inexpensive price.

In the last couple of years since I attended SuperZoo 2016, other companies have come out with their own treat tubes, copying Inaba.  Some of them Sam will eat, some he won’t.  It’s wonderful that more people are finding out that treating a cat is a great way to interact with them or to get them to do tricks!

The competitors’ products remind me of the story of Goldilocks & the Three Bears.  One is too runny, it is almost impossible to meet it out in a steady stream.  It gets everywhere but inside the cat’s mouth.  Another brand, for whatever reason, Sam will not eat.  Period. I tried to get Buffy & Peaches to partake in that treat.  They both said no. Then I emptied the tube onto a plate to see if they would eat the treat without the tube.  It didn’t matter.  The treat remained uneaten.

Inaba Churu currently comes in different chicken & tuna varieties. They also have filets of fish that are individually wrapped. None of my cats have ever turned them down either.

I currently have four cats, having just lost Elvis a few months ago.  Every cat treat & food I have reviewed has not been liked by ALL five cats.  Elvis would not eat the Inaba Churro’s chicken or chicken & tuna flavors.  He liked all the other Inaba flavors though.  My other cats wait anxiously to butt in & get a taste when I am feeding one of them a Churro treat.   Often Samson & Peaches will share a tube.

All the cats enjoy Inaba & I enjoy the fact that the product has a smooth creamy consistency that is never messy. The tubes tear open easily, but they aren’t so fragile that they break in my purse or suitcase.  The price on the product is reasonable considering that it isn’t currently a mainstream product.

In my opinion, the most expensive cat food you can buy is the kind your cat won’t eat & you end up having to throw it away.  Churus are convenient, easy to travel with & small enough to make it through airport security.  The packages are sturdy & don’t break, but you can still open them easily by hand.

Inaba Churu cat treats are life changing for many reasons: They keep Samson hydrated while we are traveling.  They are convenient, easy to travel with & small enough to make it through airport security. They facilitate his training.  There is no mess to clean up after using them.  They motivate cats to behave in ways they would not normally behave.  As I have said, Samson will take a treat from a total stranger in front of other strangers.

Inaba Churu’s are great training tools. I use them to call Samson & have him come to me, to travel all day & be in a good mood, to get him to sit up on his hind legs, or to reach in the air.  I am sure you can think up a fantastic new trick your cat can do with Inaba Churu as a reward!
