When a person is sick, it’s usually easy to tell. A person can explain their symptoms to their doctor who will treat what’s wrong. But things aren’t so easy when it comes to your dog. Your dog won’t be able to tell you when something isn’t right, so you need to keep an eye out for potential problems. Changes in behavior are a sign that your pet may have a health problem of some sort. If you’re lucky, it won’t be anything serious and your pet will be fine. There are certain symptoms that indicate a more serious health problem. If you ignore these symptoms for too long, your pet’s health will deteriorate.  If you catch problems early on and get them treatment quickly, your pet is far more likely to recover and stay healthy. These are the symptoms that you should always be on the lookout for and never ignore in your dog.

Potty Troubles

Dogs pee & poop fairly regularly, usually when you take them for a walk. If there are any changes in your pet’s patterns or he or she is having a lot of diarrhea, this could be a sign that something big might be wrong. The diarrhea might have something to do with their diet, so make sure that you’re feeding them a good diet. If your pet’s food isn’t causing the problem, it might be a more serious health condition. Give your dog a few days and see if the diarrhea passes. Your dog might have eaten something that doesn’t agree with him or her.  If that is the case an upset stomach is the cause of the problem. If you don’t see any improvement after a couple of days, you need to get your pet checked by a vet right away. If you ever see blood when they poop or pee, you should get them checked out immediately. This could be dangerous.

Distended Belly

A larger than usual belly is a big red flag. Either they have a hormonal disease or possibly internal bleeding – which can be life threatening. A distended belly may put a lot of pressure on their chest and cause them to have trouble breathing. A distended belly is a symptom that is often ignored because it doesn’t seem that serious but you should take them to a veterinary clinicimmediately. If left untreated, a distended belly could quickly turn into a very serious issue for your dog. It may be untreatable if it isn’t caught early on.

Red Eyes

Redness in the eyes of a dog can easily go unnoticed. It’s something you should watch out for because red eyes can be quite serious. It’s usually an indication that your dog has an eye infectionof some kind. The good news is, if you spot it early enough and take your dog to the vet, it’s fairly simple to treat. If you leave it for too long, it could eventually lead to blindness.

It’s far better to take your dog to the vets and find out that nothing is wrong than it is to ignore the symptoms until it’s too late.
