Description
This unique piece starts out with a slab of clay that is formed into a platter, bisque fired, glazed with low-fire green glazes, and then re-fired. A gold luster is applied to the center square, and it’s fired again at a lower “luster” temperature. The gold is in suspension when painted onto the platter, but when fired the liquid evaporates, leaving a beautiful 24 karat gold center square amidst a field of oriental green. Because of the firing process, the gold makes a spidery pattern, solidly covering the square but not so perfect it doesn’t seem earthy enough. Made from natural Hawaiian Red clay.
Platter can come with a Lucite holder to stand it up ($12.00) or have hooks & wires attached to hang (if you want to have the platter lay flat on table at times, go with the Lucite holder).
